Description

BSc Business and Law (TU904) is an attractive degree in both business and law. Graduates of the course have a combination of business acumen and legal knowledge and this skillset offers great career flexibility, opening up a wide array of career opportunities in business and in the legal profession. Our graduates are uniquely equipped with the analytical and advocacy skills developed through legal training, combined with the numeracy and financial literacy of a business degree. The first two years are designed to provide a solid foundation in the fundamental disciplines in business – accounting, economics, quantitative methods, management, marketing, human resources and operations as well as a rigorous grounding in core aspects of the law. This approach allows students to get a taste of the different aspects of both business and law in the first half of their degree. Using the core knowledge acquired in the first two years of study, in Years 3 and 4 students can choose from a wide range of optional advanced modules in both business and law. At this point students can continue to study both disciplines, or they can choose to primarily specialise in either or business or law, depending on their personal interests or career aspirations. Lectures and tutorials are delivered in small class sizes to facilitate greater interaction and active learning. A diverse range of teaching approaches are adopted including formal lectures with tutorial support, business case-study analysis, debates, role play, industry project work, charity events, simulation exercises and networking events. Of particular note is the opportunity for students to take part in both national and international business strategy case study competitions in the final year of the course.
